Berwyn Fire Dept Poster Winners: Jefferson Trifecta!

 winners

On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, three 3rd graders from Jefferson Elementary School in Berwyn North District 98 placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Annual Berwyn Fire Poster Contest. All three students were honored at the Berwyn City Council Meeting. The three students were accompanied by their families, the school's principal, Ms. Stephanie Mitchell, and two of their teachers, Mrs. Castillo and Ms. Pena.

The winners are:
1st Place Ailton Roman (Ms. Pena's Classroom)
2nd Place Guillermo Mora (Mrs. Sorensen's Classroom)
3rd Place Carolina Rocha (Mrs. Castillo's Classroom.)

This contest is offered to all Berwyn 3rd graders in both North and South Berwyn and Berwyn's private schools as well. While not all schools choose to participate, there are hundreds of entries annually from all around Berwyn. The Berwyn Fire Department chooses blindly based upon a variety of informational criteria not simply the artwork. This year all three winners happened to be from one school, a true trifecta! This year's topic was about checking your smoke detector batteries, "Don't Wait! Check the Date!"

Ailton Roman, the 1st place winner, received a 100 gift certificate and will be able to ride to Jefferson School one day this spring on a Berwyn Fire Truck! When the school's principal, Ms. Mitchell, asked Ailton if he was excited to ride on a Fire Truck this spring, he replied, "Wow, I think I'm going to need earplugs if they turn the sirens on!"
